May Reading Wrap Up/June Monthly Reading Update

Hello Readers!

And happy June!

May was a busy reading month for me! And even though I completely scrapped the reading list I had so carefully planned on at the beginning of May, I’m happy with the results.  At the beginning of the month I had planned to read these five (5) books:

  • Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
  • Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles
  • The Wicked Deep by Shae Ernshaw
  • Warcross by Marie Lu
  • The Haunted Deep by Adriana Mather

Now, this was a working list. These were the books I had that my brain thought I wanted to read right at this particular moment.  But because reading is a mood based activity I found that I wasn’t necessarily in the mood to read these particular books at this particular time.

So what books did I read in May? Well, let me tell you.

During the month of May I read a total of seven books. And the books I read were:

  • Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
  • Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (Audiobook)
  • Heartless by Mariessa Meyer (Audiobook)
  • Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
  • Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson
  • Nightlights by Lorena Alvarez Gomez (Graphic Novel)

Seriously?! How did I read six (6) books?!  I swear to you guys, I generally don’t read this much in the month.  It’s definitely because I’ve added audiobooks to my “reading”. And I’m glad I did.

Looking back at the month, I really happy with all the books I read. I can honestly say that I loved most of the books listed above. And some of those books, before I jumped into reading them, I didn’t think I would.

For example: Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I know it’s a SUPER popular book, and even when it was first published there was a lot of hype about it. But I resisted. And resisted, until it presented itself once again in the form of a work project. I read it within a few short days and I was totally into it.  Even though I’m glad I (finally) read it,  I’m sad I didn’t read it earlier. But we live and we learn!

Anyway … let’s move on to my (very) tentative June reading list!

Because I went to Book Expo America (BEA) just last week I have a plethora of new books that I want to read. But as always there’s backlist and audiobooks I also want to read this month.  I don’t want to set myself up for failure, my goal is to read another five (5) books. With that I will also hope to squeeze in some more – maybe a graphic novel/manga or two.

As alwayst this list, it’s definitely a working TBR list. I’m sure it will vastly change, but that’s okay. I like starting the month off knowing I have a general idea of what I want to read. With that said, here’s what I am hoping to read during the month of June:

  • Warcross by Marie Lu
  • Odd One Out by Nic Stone
  • Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
  • Love Sugar Magic by Anna Meriano
  • City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Of the above listed books, two or three of them may be audiobooks. As of now I can tell you that Warcross and Love Sugar Magic  will definitely be read via audiobook, and Three Dark Crowns may be the third audiobook I squeeze in.

So what books are on your June TBR list, dear readers? I’d love to know! Please share in the comments!
