March Reading Challenge

Hello Readers!

For the past two months I’ve been challenging myself to read a total of four books. Each month I’ve been picking a new-ish book (a book that has been published within the past year), an arc (an advanced readers copy), an audiobook, and a backlisted TBR (a book that has been on my to be read list for … forever).

In January I didn’t get to finish my challenge because I was selected to be a Cybils judge and had some serious reading commitments. I had to put my own reading wants aside and read the five titles that were nominated. So even though I technically did not complete my challenge, in a way I did. I didn’t finish reading the books I chose for myself, but I did read a total of five books in January.

In February I was still reading for the Cybils. I was reading for the Cybils up until February 10th or so. So I started my February challenge a bit later than I normally would. In February I did read the arc I challenged myself to read – Kissing in America by Margo Rabb. And I also finished the new-ish book, The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. And not only did I finish reading my backlisted TBR, The Keys to the Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson, I also started and finished an e-arc of Terra Elan McVoy’s debut middle grade, Drive Me Crazy.

You counted right! I read a total of four books in the short month of February.

With that said, I did not finish the audiobook, however. And I’m realizing that as much as I love a good audiobook, I have a difficult time listening because of the fact that I only really listen on my commute to and from work. And my commute isn’t very long. So because of that, it feels like it takes me forever to finish an audiobook.

Because of that going forward, for now, I’m not going to include an audiobook. If I get to listen to one, great! If not, that’s okay too. Instead I think I’m going to try to read a middle grade instead.

For the month of March though, I decided to switch things up a little bit. I’m going to be reading all ARCs this month. Why? Well, honestly I have a lot of ARCs/e-ARCs that will be publishing soon, and I’d like to have them read and reviewed before (or around) publication. I am also hoping to squeeze in a backlisted TBR book.

The books I’m hoping to get to this month are:

The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

Between Us and the Moon by Rebecca Maizel

Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby

Drive Me Crazy by Terra Elan McVoy (middle grade)

After the Kiss by Terra Elan McVoy (backlisted TBR)

To keep everyone updated, I actually read and finished (quite fast) Terra Elan McVoy’s Drive Me Crazy. So that takes care of the middle grade book.

I’m truly hoping that I get to these four books during the month of March. And I’m certain I can so long as I keep focused and keep my reading cap on!

How about you, dear readers? What books are you planning to read (and why) this month?
