12 Days of Christmas: Day 7 with Melissa from Bookmark Dragon

Hello Readers!

It’s official: in less than a week Christmas will be upon us! So while you’re counting down the (dwindling) days why don’t you check out this awesome post about a true classic – Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! And to tell all about why this book would make a great gift is Melissa from Bookmark Dragon! When I first posted about this feature on Twitter, Melissa seriously was the first person to respond! So, as always a BIG THANK YOU to Melissa for participating in the 12 Days of Christmas holiday feature! And yes readers, you should definitely check out her blog, Bookmark Dragon!

Whether it’s due to Jane Austen’s astounding talent or because of Colin Firth, Pride and Prejudice remains one of the most beloved books in the cannon of Classic Literature.  On the occasion when I was ill growing up, I remember my mother comforting me with chicken noodle soup, fluffy pillows, and the 6-disk Pride and Prejudice miniseries.  Later, when I was 19 years old, I decided I didn’t need to be sick to enjoy Austen, and I read the book cover to cover for the first time.  I was already well acquainted with the story, but reading the book was an altogether different experience.  I discovered that Austen’s keenly observant literature went far beyond love stories.  The wit, charm, and often sharpness of her stories combined with the already-familiar-to-me dialogue was a potent combination.  Her status as one of the greatest writers of her century (or, indeed, of any century) is absolutely well deserved, and I’ve been pushing Austen onto everyone around me ever since.  Because of its beloved status, because of its intelligent writing, because of its sweeping romance, and because there are so many fabulous editions to choose from, Pride and Prejudice would make a spectacular Christmas gift.  Pair it with any of these additional items, and you’ve got yourself a winning gift.
1. Pride and Prejudice Typography Tote Back – To show your love for the story, and to attract other Pride and Prejudice groupies to you.
2. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley Tree Ornaments – Because of the awesome factor.
3. Pride and Prejudice Cookie Cutters – Throw an Austen themed cookie party after reading P&P with these!
4. Pride and Prejudice Notebook – To collect your thoughts and favorite quotes you come across while reading.
5. Pemberley Collect Flag – In case you really want to be a nerd. (In the best way possible.)
6. Austenland film – Find a soul mate in this funny and heartwarming story about a girl who really, really loves Jane Austen.
7. Pride and Prejudice Character Bookmarks – To hold you spot while reading.
