Book of the Week: Broom, Zoom

Broom, Zoom by Caron Lee Cohen Illustrated by Sergio Ruzzier

Published: 2010 Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Reasons why I liked this book, and chose it as Book of the Week:

The little witch featured in the book is the cutest witch … ever.

I like how her pointy hat looks too big for her, and it isn’t black like a traditional witch’s hat – it’s red. The little witch also isn’t dressed in black, but rather purple and red.

There’s also a monster in this book (though it looks more like an alien if you ask me) and it’s wearing a diaper. Quite funny.

I really like how this story is short, sweet, and to the point.

Also, some pages do not contain words but only illustrations. When this occurs words aren’t necessary because the illustrations do a great job at what is going on in the book.

I love how at the core of this book it’s about sharing and compromise. Not only does it show the importance of sharing and compromising, but it also shows the importance of helping out when needed.

Both characters are very thoughtful of the other.

I think the book does a great job at showing the difference between wants and needs.

Shows that when you work together to do something, less time is consumed and will leave more time to do other things.

I love the little monsters pointy ears.

It was a fun story.

I loved the colors used throughout the books – various shades of yellow, purple, and hints of red and green.
